How Going Makeup Free Changed Me

About a month ago, I read a blog post about a young woman who decided to go make-up free while travelling. And it really inspired me. It made me realise that I can be loved and accepted as I am. And people should love me for who I am. But it was more that she mentioned how it allowed her more time and energy to focus on who she was as a person rather than getting caught up in the physical appearance.
Think about it, how much time do you spend worrying or thinking about what you look like to others (and not just saying you want to look a certain way so you feel confident- that is still to look a certain way to other people. imagine if you didn't look at your reflection or know what you looked like. How would you change?)
... get back on track Al...
Since reading this. I have started going to work without makeup or even going out without makeup. And boy oh boy was it a tad scary, but it was liberating! And seeing that I wasn't treated any differently. If anything it has a positive effect. People seem to see the real me. The vulnerability of it all seemed to create a little opening that lets people in, makes them feel comfortable and more relatable. Today at work, an older couple even mentioned "I love the old school look with the rosy cheeks", and instead of getting embarrassed, I embraced it. I have always had rosy cheeks. Where I look at myself and see imperfections, other people seem to see the beauty in the "real"ness.
I know I like to see a person for who they really are, imperfections and all. (after all that is what makes us special)
So to summarise, my top 4 reasons to go make-up free:
1. More time and energy to focus on who I am as a person and on conversations and interactions with others
2. Save money and time with makeup and appearance
3. Clearer, healthier skin
4. IT IS COMPLETELY LIBERATING! (to realise that people still love you, if not MORE, without makeup.)
Trust me, this concept is pure genius.
PSA: Yes, I still wear makeup occassionally to feel pretty and feminine. But I don't feel like I have to wear it to cover up my imperfections.
Embrace the glorious mess that you are. It is purely beautiful.
Love Al xx
