"Qi"- What on earth is it?

Qi (pronounced "Chi") is the vital energy of the body.
To understand this you need a little bit of imagination. This isn't to say that Qi isn't real. It very much is real. However, you cannot physically see it like you can see blood. Qi is like the window you are looking through to see what is happening. You cannot necessarily see it but it serves its function of separating in from out. And again, you don't realise it is even there until you pay proper attention to it or until it becomes broken or dirty (that way i am talking about the window)…but you get the analogy.
Qi is responsible for life, death and everything in between. We obtain Qi from internal and external forces. We inherit Qi from our parents and we acquire Qi from food, drinks and breathing. That being said… Qi is involved in everything.
In terms of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Qi drives the flow of blood. It is the energy that controls the functions in the body. It holds and controls the organs and blood. It has different movements such as ascending, descending, entering and exiting.
Qi is what flows through the several meridians (energy channels) of the body. Acupuncture targets the flow of Qi in order to harmonise the body.
In short, Qi is essential for everything in life and the body.
